TIDRA COAST LINES · 1.0

The living lines are the signature graphic of Tidra: the real shoreline of a place, redrawn
offshore again and again, each line 1.11 times further out than the last.

What is here
tidra_coastlines.py The generator. Works with any coastline.
examples/ Land polygons (GeoJSON) for the five Tidra projects:
Halifax Bay, Shark Bay, Darwin Harbour, Moreton Bay, Cairns.
project coasts/ Ready-made SVGs of the five projects in both styles:
_editorial (cream, documents, covers) and _app (dark, products).

Make a new coast (5 minutes)
  1. Get the land as GeoJSON in longitude/latitude. Sources: OpenStreetMap land polygons,
GSHHG, a council GIS export, or draw the area on geojson.io and clip.
  2. Install once: pip install numpy scipy scikit-image pillow
  3. Run: python tidra_coastlines.py my-coast.geojson -o my-coast.svg
add --style app for the dark product version
                    add --bbox lon0 lat0 lon1 lat1 to frame a specific area
  4. Open the SVG in Illustrator, Figma or InDesign. Land, lines and islands are separate
groups and every line is an editable path.

Rules
  - Never draw or edit a coastline by hand. Never stretch a map: crop it.
  - Do not change the growth (1.11) or the number of lines per scale without Brand.
  - Project scale only. Country and region maps use a lat/long grid, not depth lines.
  - The logo never sits on top of the lines: place it on solid land or open sea.
